Their thick woolen coats best recognize them, and this wool is used for clothing, bedding, and many other purposes.
Many people love humble sheep, and in this how-to guide on how to draw a cartoon sheep, we’ll create a cute depiction of this popular farm animal.
There are many fun details, and you can add some extra ideas and elements. You will want to see it to the end!
How to Draw A Cartoon Sheep
Step 1
We’ll start this cartoon sheep design with the animal’s head. The head will be quite large, with some woolly hair on top. Before we draw this wool, let’s draw the front of the face.
This will have a single long curved line that will act as the front of the face and extend into the mouth. Next, we’ll use another long, curved line for the base of the head.
The ears stick out on the sides near the top of the head, allowing the woolly top to go over them. This woolly area is drawn with some curved and irregular lines.
Step 2
This second step of our how to draw a cartoon sheep guide focuses on the sheep’s back. This part of the animal has a woolly outline that resembles the top of the head.
This means we will use many bumps to form a long, curved line for the animal’s back.
The bumps for this section are significantly larger than those for the top of the head. The sheep base will be empty now, but we will fill these spots soon!
Step 3
Continuing with this image, let’s add the bottom outline for the sheep’s body, along with some eyes and facial features. We’ll extend the jagged line you started in the previous step for the lower body.
The body of the sheep as a whole will be quite oval and drawn using the large nubs we used on the torso. Then we will draw the eyes:
- Draw two oval shapes with a small space between them. Each has a smaller oval inside with a dot.
- Let’s add a curved line for the cheeks at the base of each eye.
- For this step, add some eyebrows above the eyes, and then we can continue!
Step 4
Now we’re going to finish the face and add some texture lines to your cartoon sheep design. First, we’ll draw a nose at the end of the sheep’s face.
This will be drawn as a rounded triangle shape. So for some structure on the wool, we add a series of small curved lines on the body.
This creates a fluffy volume for the wool. Once those details are in, we’ll finalize some final details in the next step of the guide!
Step 5
This sheep is floating in the air, and no one wants it! For this reason, we will add some paws in this step of our how to draw a cartoon sheep guide.
The legs are slender and relatively short, with a slight curve.
Each leg has rounded lines at the base that connect to the hooves. The hooves are drawn as rounded shapes with two sharp spikes at the ends.
With your legs drawn up, you’re ready for the last step! Before we get to that, feel free to add additional details. One idea would be to draw a fun farm background for these sheep to hang out on.
What settings and additional details would you like for this sheep?
Step 6
This is the last step of the guide, and in it, we will finish with some color. This should be a really fun step! There are endless ways to colorize this design.
We kept things a bit darker and muted with the chosen colors in our reference image. The colors are reddish brown and give the sheep a cozier look.
You could use similar colors for your cartoon sheep, but you can use the different colors we used!
